About me
Hey! I'm Alastair Dewar, and that's me there on the left. I'm a self confessed geek and a bit of a computer whizz kid. I've been working with computers for many moons now and I've built up quite a knowledge of the things over this time. It takes something special to get me stumped, but it does happen on the rare occasion. Computers aren't my only fortay, im also pretty clued up on other cloesly related industries such as telecomms etc. I'm a helpful person and always appreciate a bit of banter, so dont hesitate, get in touch!
A little history
Being only 20 years of age, I'm just getting stuck into this big bad world, and so expect some heavy editing of this section. I'm Troon born and bred and so, growing up attended Troon Primary School and Marr College secondary school. At Marr I focused on my strengths, taking studying subjects related to computing, maths and sciences. On leaving Marr in 2008 I had built up a respectful 5 Higher and 1 Advanced Higher qualifications. From here I decided to stay in Higher Education and in the same year started a Bachelors of Science course with Honours majoring in Computer Science. Before the year was out i graduated to the second year having recieved exmeptions from all first year exams through hard work, determination and excellent results throughout the year. Before returning my hard work didn't go un-noticed and i was invited onto a Masters degree in Engineering studying Computer Science (It may be worth noting, in both first and second year ive minored in several business subject as well). And here I am ...
My skillset
Being a good old fashioned geek and gadget lover, my skillset is not a small one. I have a good knowledge in several areas which set me out from the average joe.
In terms of programming knowledge I started off by learning the ... unique ... Visual Basic, however, a somewhat more experienced and biased audience quickly assured Visual Basic was not the way forward and i started to play around with Java.
A while later, I took a strong interest in web technologies and dabbled into the many aspects of developing web sites. During this phase, I taught myself PHP, Javascript, SQL & CSS. Aditionally I strated reading into AJAX.
In first year at University I started to expand my knowledge once again, really focusing on Java. Subsequently Java is now my favourite programming language which I am very familiar with. I also learnt some basics of Perl and MARIE, the instruction set architechture.
In second year almost all of my programming projects use Java, however, after taking a very interesting class in functional programming I now know quite a lot about the language Haskell.
Who knows what's next?!
